Two Kent students, who represented the University at a Global Entrepreneurship competition in Virginia, USA, received their Entrepreneurial Ambassador certificates during a ceremony on 17 October.

Cesare Dunker and Rayyan Sorefan received their certificates from Professor Philippe De Wilde, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, in recognition of their entrepreneurial spirit, professionalism and confidence.

They designed eLog, an app that allows people seeking refuge to track their journey through photo-recognition, geo-tagging and time mapping. The app seeks to provide an inter-country service, which directly pinpoints people’s location and aids the processing of applications by government departments.

Cesare and Rayyan won the People’s Choice prize in the Virginia Tech KnowledgeWorks Global Student Entrepreneurship Challenge earlier this year. The University of Kent represents the UK at this annual event, competing against students from 14 other universities from countries including Ecuador, Italy and Australia.

The certificate presentation was also an opportunity to thank Dr Anthony Manning, Dean for Internationalisation at Kent, for sponsoring their travel and Santander Universities, who are sponsoring on-campus workspace for Cesare and Rayyan to spend the next year developing their business idea.

Cesare is a student in the School of Politics and International Relations and Rayyan studies in the Law School. Both are members of the Hub for Innovation & Enterprise, the University of Kent’s dedicated Student Enterprise and Start Up support.

The students put forward their business idea for the University of Kent Big Ideas Competition and were selected to receive comprehensive mentoring to prepare for the competition.
