Paris Centre visit by British Ambassador

British Ambassador visit by University of Kent

Staff at the University’s Paris Centre have hosted a visit by the British Ambassador to France, Sir Peter Ricketts, GCMG GCVO.

Sir Peter, who is an honorary graduate of the University, enjoyed meeting new MA students as well as staff including: Professor Roger Vickerman, Dean for Europe; Professor Peter Brown, Academic Director (Paris programmes); Alastair Ross, Head of European Administration; Dr Carine Fréville (Centre for English and World Lanuages); and Dr Alex Preston (School of English).

The University opened its Paris Centre at historic Reid Hall in 2010 and now offers 14 interdisciplinary MA programmes and selected PhD programmes. This autumn, the Centre welcomed its first cohort of MA students whose programmes will be delivered exclusively in the French capital.

Reid Hall is situated in the heart of Paris’ bustling Montparnasse district where artists Picasso and Modigliani opened their studios, and also close to the now-celebrated cafés where Paris’ intellectual elites once held court. The Centre is just a short walk from the Jardin du Luxembourg, an expansive, classically-designed park.

This year, the Paris Centre will host a number of academic conferences including a meeting of the Society of the Dix-Neuviémistes, the Kent Law School Summer School in Critical Theory and a colloquium on Post-Napoleonic Europe.
