Professor Robert Green OBE will discuss the power of DNA, not only to identify and convict the guilty, but also to exonerate the innocent.

Robert Green OBE will bring CSI to the University of Kent in the final VC Esteem Lecture of the 50th anniversary year.

The UK was the first country in the world to use DNA to solve a murder when the technique was used to identity and arrest Colin Pitchfork for the murders of Lynda Mann and Dawn Ashworth in Narborough, Leicestershire.

The development and application of forensic and familial DNA can be contentious; the lecture will look back to 1995 when the National DNA Database went live and then explore the emerging science and ever-developing legislation which have advanced in tandem.

With the increasing demand for DNA evidence in criminal trials, the new Rapid Hit DNA technology that is currently under trial will also go under the microscope.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday 1 April at 18.00 in Grimond Lecture Theatre 1.

Admission is free and open to all.
