Can I Help You? by Playing ON

Two public events at the Gulbenkian in February will address different aspects of mental health and wellbeing.

The first, on Friday 7 February at 19.30, is the play Can I Help you? performed by the theatre company Playing ON. This show will examine the role that race and gender play in mental health and suicide.

The second, on Saturday 8 February at 20.00, will be a stand-up comedy show in the Gulbenkian café, with comedians Matt Hoss, Dave Chawner, Chelsea Birkby and Juliette Burton exploring health and wellbeing in general.

Both shows are in support of The Art, Aesthetics and the Medical and Health Humanities Conference, sponsored by the British Society of Aesthetics, being held at Kent from Friday 7 – Sunday 9 February.

Dr Dieter Declercq, Lead organiser and Lecturer in Film and Media Studies at the School of Arts, said: ‘We are delighted to have secured these performances as part of our conference agenda. Looking after our mental health and wellbeing is so important, and exploring these taboo subjects through theatre presents a different way for audiences to understand and relate to real issues.’
