SMEs in Kent are invited to attend a free event organised by Kent Business School (KBS) in partnership with Santander UK to learn more about the different ways they can secure finance to help their businesses grow.

The event, part of the Business Soundbites series run by KBS, will take place at the Sibson Building at the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus on Thursday 6 June from 17.00.

It will start with a talk from Dr Ortenca Kume, a lecturer in finance at KBS, who will discuss research findings into factors driving SMEs financing decisions.

There will then be talks from two directors of Kent-based firms about how they have used different funding opportunities to help their firms grow. The first will be from the director of Abbaltis, Giedre Brandao, a biomedical firm based in Sittingbourne, while the second will be from the director of Mindspire, Jane Ollis, a meditech start-up based in Tunbridge Wells.

After these talks there will be the chance to discuss various funding issues and opportunities with a panel of experts consisting of:

  • Colin Berkeley – regional director of Santander UK Corporate & Commercial
  • Geert Struyven – a partner at tax, audit and advisory firm Crowe U.K. LLP
  • Shaun Beaney – manager of Corporate Finance Faculty for theInstitute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Dr Kume said: ‘The latest Business Soundbites event is a great chance for SMEs across Kent to learn more about how they can grow their business, with new research, insights from those that have been on this journey and the views of well-placed industry experts. We hope as many people as possible will attend what will be a fascinating event.’
