The Rt Hon Lord David Willetts is the guest for the 2018 Foundation Day Lecture, taking place on Friday 28 September.

Lord Willetts first became an MP in 1992 and had a career spanning 20 years in government. This included working as a government whip and the Paymaster General in his first term in office. He was later made education minister for the coalition government between 2010-2014 and became a member of the House of Lords in 2015.

He is now the Chair of the British Science Association and Executive Chair of the Resolution Foundation. He was also made an honorary fellow of the Royal Society and is the Chancellor of the University of Leicester.

The event, which is open to open to the public and free to attend, take places in the Colyer-Fergusson Concert Hall from 18.30 – 19.30. No booking is required but seating will be on a first come, first served basis. There is free parking at the Canterbury campus from 17.00.

Lord Willets is the second high-profile former government minister to speak at the University in September, with Lord Adonis taking part in the first talk of In Conversation series for the academic year on Thursday 20 September 2018.
