Satirical cartoonist In Conversation with Gavin Esler

Celebrated Sunday Times cartoonist and illustrator Gerald Scarfe CBE will be the first guest for a new series of this popular event on Monday 5 October.

Hosted by the Chancellor, Gavin Esler, the event will take place at 6.30pm in the Woolf Lecture Theatre on the Canterbury campus. It is free and open to all. Early arrival is recommended.

Other guests for the series include author Ian Rankin, film critic Mark Kermode, TV journalist Alastair Stewart and novelist Louis de Bernieres. Each of the events will feature an informal discussion between the guest and Gavin Esler, concluding with a Question and Answer session of audience questions.

Following each talk there will be a ticketed High Table Dinner (further information is available here). Money raised from the sale of tickets for this part of the event will go towards the Chancellor’s Hardship Fund.

Gerald Scarfe has been producing drawings and paintings for more than 50 years and has now been political cartoonist for the Sunday Times for 44 years. He has also worked on Walt Disney’s Hercules and Pink Floyd’s animation of The Wall.

He was awarded an Honorary Degree by the University in 2004.
