Polish honour awarded to Kent Professor of Theatre and Performance

An expert on Polish theatre at the University of Kent has been presented with a major prize by that nation’s International Theatre Institute (ITI).

Professor Paul Allain received the Witkacy Prize for promoting Polish theatre abroad from the Polish Section of the ITI on 9 December. The presentation was part of an annual theatre festival in Kraków.

The Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz (Witkacy) Prize is an annual award for outstanding achievement in the promotion of Polish theatre throughout the world. The Prize has been awarded since 1983.

Professor Allain, Dean of the Graduate School at the University, said: ‘It was a great honour to receive the Witkacy Prize in Poland.’

Paul Allain, who is Professor of Theatre and Performance at the University’s School of Arts, is author and editor of many works on Polish theatre.

Most recently he has contributed to a podcast on Jerzy Grotowski called Search, the first part of which was published when Professor Allain was in Poland.
