Acclaimed director Ken Loach to host public Q&A at Kent

The University will host an event with award-winning director Ken Loach on 12 April. The event is free to attend and open to the public.

Ken Loach, who has directed films including Kes, The Wind That Shakes the Barley and I, Daniel Blake and numerous TV dramas, including Cathy Come Home, will also be joined by Tony Garnett, a renowned producer who has worked with Loach on many of his projects.

The event begins at 14.15 with a free screening of Loach and Garnett’s acclaimed drama The Big Flame that covers the Liverpool dock ‘work-in’ of 1969. This will then be followed by a short talk by Ken Loach and Tony Garnett and a Q&A with the audience starting at 16.15.

While the event is free to attend spaces are limited so those interested in attending are asked to register in advance to secure a spot. Both Loach and Garnett will also be presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award for their services to British cinema as part of the British Association of Film Television and Screen Studies (BAFTSS) conference on ‘Revolution: Politics, Technology and Aesthetics’ taking place at the University.

The conference has been organised by Dr Alex Marlow-Mann of the Department of Modern Languages within the School of European Culture of Languages on behalf of the Centre for Film and Media Research, and takes place on the 12-13 April.
