Medway

Sports

The student union partnership at the Medway campus - GK Unions - supports competitive and non-competitive teams, including football, rugby, cricket, volleyball, athletics, rowing, tennis, netball, badminton and basketball.

GK Unions offers help and financial support to start your own sports club or team. The majority of the sports teams compete in the national student leagues run by BUCS – British Universities & Colleges Sport as well as their own on-campus tournaments.

Medway Park

Medway Park is a multi-sport, state-of-the-art facility, located near to the campus. Kent students receive preferential rates to use its sports halls, pools, squash courts, health suites and athletics track.

The University's School of Sport and Exercise Sciences also has dedicated sports science research and clinic rooms for sports therapy, rehabilitation and injury prevention. Specialist equipment at Medway Park includes a Respiratory Clinic equipped for the diagnosis of respiratory disease/dysfunction, an RS scan for understanding underfoot mechanics, an anti-gravity treadmill to aid impact reduced training, a 3D video analysis system and two spacious environmental chambers for hypoxia and temperature regulation. The excellent standard of our facilities led to Medway Park being used as a pre-Games training camp for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sports in Medway

The Medway area includes a range of other sporting facilities, such as a dry ski slope and toboggan run, an ice rink, a gokarting circuit, and an Olympic standard trampoline centre. The Deangate Ridge Sports Complex has an 18-hole golf course, athletics track and gym, and the Arethusa Venture Centre offers a great climbing wall and sailing activities. There is also a fantastic soccer centre, Kicks, which has third-generation astroturf – the best possible artificial surface.
