  • Brief description:

The first part of the File contains correspondence, mainly with Nowell Johnson, relating to the period after Hewlett Johnson's death. There are several documents in the style of obituaries summing up Hewlett's life and its significance. It includes a personal memory of Nowell's 'Life with the Red Dean', some newspaper articles and Nowell's response to critical comments. At 7620 there is a list in Nowell's hand of images of her husband and a list of his writings.

There is a Service Sheet + Hewlett's notes on his sermon for a 1933 Sunday School Teacher's service in Ramsgate. There are notes in Johnson's hand on his 1932 trip to China, and an obituary from him on Dick Sheppard.

The second part of the folder contains correspondence relating to the King's School between 1935 and the 1950s. Much of the correspondence is between Johnson and the Headmaster, Canon John Shirley.
