Depositing your thesis -
advice for research postgraduates

If you have successfully completed a research degree at Kent, you have to submit an electronic copy of your final research degree thesis (PhD, MPhil or MA-R) to the Kent Academic Repository (KAR) prior to the award of your degree.

The electronic submission is done using a Moodle module - see a guide on how to do this (pdf). Your Academic School will set this up for you.

You have three options regarding the electronic sharing of your work:

  • making a full-text copy of your thesis available for others to read (open access)
  • restricting access temporarily
  • restricting access permanently

You no longer have to submit a printed copy to the Library, but you can still do this in addition to the electronic version. The print version would be accessible to Kent students and staff, walk-in users and anyone requesting it via inter-library loan.
