Embedded 'Skills Development' Workshops

Information for Academic Teams

Our advisers/tutors specialise in developing the knowledge, understanding, study strategies and academic skills of all students, from foundation to PhD, forging a sense of belonging and ownership of learning, enhancing motivation, independence and academic achievement.

Every year our advisers/tutors work with subject specialists to embed and deliver workshops to support student induction and incremental development, for example

Inductions into:
• university expectations - different stages/levels of study
• learning and study strategies
• academic practices and conventions
• undertaking different types of assignments
• modes of assessment and assessment criteria
• different forms and types of knowledge etc

Incremental development in:
• criticality, reflection and evaluation
• reading and research
• generating and using different forms/types of knowledge
• communication – visual, verbal and written - tailored to different audiences etc
