Technoscience, Law and Society

About us

A range of academic disciplines are concerned with diverse aspects of the nexus points between knowledge, technology and law. Through this Network - a collaboration between Kent Law School and Edinburgh Medical School - we aim to deepen and sustain emerging interdisciplinary conversations about science, technologies and law. The Network includes a range of scholars and practitioners engaging with these dynamics, in order to reflexively interrogate these relationships.

The project will proceed over five innovative events:

  • Networking event and art display (in partnership with the Arts Catalyst, London): ‘Breaking Down Barriers: Law, Technoscience and Society’

  • One-day workshop (Kent Law School): ‘Science, Technologies and Legal Processes: Interrogating the Place, Role and Impact of Materiality’

  • Deliberative public engagement event (Edinburgh): ‘Leaving your brain to science: engaging with law and ethics?’

  • Symposium (London): ‘Regulating Bioscience: Between the Ivory Tower and the Policy Room’ (In partnership with the BBSRC)

  • Final international conference (Kent Law School): ‘Articulating Science, Technology and Law: Regarding, Reflecting, and Remaking Society’
