DEMYSTIFYING THE FAMILY COURT

Representing yourself in family court proceedings can be very stressful and the court itself can feel like an intimidating place if you are unsure what to expect.

The Kent Law Clinic would like to offer some help and guidance by inviting members of the public to come and experience what it may feel like to be in a court room  (in our mooting chamber) and learn what is likely to happen on the day of a family hearing. Our aim is to help people gain knowledge and confidence.

Please join us at 5pm on Wednesday 25 January 2017 in the Wigoder Building at the University of Kent’s Canterbury Campus to make the most of this opportunity.

A group of local Barristers and Judges have agreed to join us for this event to help explain their role within the family court system and offer guidance on how to present your case if you are unable to afford legal representation.

The Wigoder Building is located between Rutherford and Eliot Colleges, next to the Kent Law School building.  Once on campus (see directions below) both of the colleges are signposted.  The map below highlights the Wigoder Building, Keynes bus stop and the suggested car park for your use.

To get to campus:
By bus
Canterbury Bus station – Take the Uni bus 1 or 2 or bus route number 36 to campus and alight at Keynes Bus Stop.
Canterbury East Station – Turn right out of the station, without crossing the bridge, and follow the road to the bus stop. Take the Uni bus 1 or 2, or bus route number 4 to Keynes Bus Stop.
Canterbury West Station - Turn right out of the station and walk to the end of Station Road West, cross the road (St Dunstan’s Street) at the zebra crossing and the bus stop is on the left, heading away from the town centre. Take the Uni bus 1 or 2, or bus route number 4 to Keynes Bus Stop.
From Keynes Bus Stop walk past Keynes College, along University Road until you reach the School of Arts.  Then turn right, after walking past Essentials, Blackwells, Caffe Nero, Eliot College and the Kent Law School building, you will find the Wigoder Building on your right.

By car from Canterbury
Via A2 eastbound/London: Rheims Way, London Road, Whitstable Road, University Road.
Via A2 westbound/A28: Wincheap, Rheims Way, London Road, Whitstable Road, University Road
There is limited parking available on campus. The most convenient visitor parking is behind the Gulbenkian Theatre, which has pay and display parking spaces.
From the Gulbenkian theatre car park walk past the Lumley and Grimond buildings on the right and Templeman library on the left.  Turn left towards Eliot College and walk past the Marlowe building on the right.  When you meet the bridge to Eliot College turn left and walk past the Kent Law School building.  The Wigoder building is on the right.
