Sue originally graduated from Cambridge University in 1991 with a BA(Hons) in English, having joined Magdalene College in the first cohort of women to study at what was the last all-male Oxbridge college. Joining Kent Business School (KBS) at Medway as an Associate Lecturer in Business Law that same year, Sue was appointed in 2012 as a Lecturer in Business Law, Innovation and Enterprise within the International Business and Strategy Group, and the Director of Studies for Business & Management. Research interests

In 2019, Sue was awarded the Social Sciences Faculty Teaching Prize in recognition of her development of the LexCarta Let’s Moot! ™ serious game to teach legal reasoning. Sue is currently researching how playing serious games such as LexCarta Let’s Moot! ™ creates an environment that triggers comparative and consequential internal feedback, and thereby fosters meaningful evaluative judgment, in learners.

Teaching

Sue’s teaching interests include tort, contract, company and employment law; entrepreneurship, and management consultancy.

Supervision

In her professional life, Sue has worked in marketing in the newspaper and telecommunications’ industries, and as a professional business copywriter. In that capacity, Sue has written white papers and thought-leadership pieces for leading ICT corporations such as IBM, BT and Oracle, and business institutions including the Institute of Directors and the Confederation of British Industry.

Sue set up her own business in her mid-twenties, supporting the marketing campaigns of companies across the UK and Europe such as B & Q, Harrods, British Airways, Cisco, Sony and Virgin Media. This gave her a practical insight into creating and running an enterprise that she brings to bear in the entrepreneurship modules on which she teaches. Sue has previously been an Affiliated Member (Professional) of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM); Member of the Kent Chamber of Commerce, and a Registered Business Consultant on the Business Link National Consultancy Register.
