Sue is currently researching the use of gamification in legal studies to promote learning and inclusive student engagement. A particular focus of her research is the emotional experiences of students as they journey through a liminal space to acquire troublesome knowledge and skills. Sue’s work suggests that gamified learning events can create such liminal spaces, and enable practitioners to trigger and resolve epistemic emotions such as confusion within them to engender deeper learning in an enjoyable educational setting.
Sue’s teaching interests include tort, contract law, company law, employment law and entrepreneurship.
In her professional life, Sue has worked in marketing within the newspaper industry and at large corporates, and as a professional copywriter. In that capacity, Sue has written white papers and thought-leadership pieces for leading ICT corporations such as IBM, BT and Oracle, and business institutions including the Institute of Directors and the Confederation of British Industry.
Sue set up her own business in her mid-twenties, giving her a practical insight into creating and running an enterprise that she brings to bear in the entrepreneurship modules on which she teaches. Sue remains Managing Director of a copywriting agency that provides business-to-business marketing copywriting services to companies across the UK and Europe and has supported the marketing campaigns of clients such as B & Q, Harrods, British Airways, Cisco, Sony and Virgin Media.
Sue has previously been an Affiliated Member (Professional) of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM); Member of the Kent Chamber of Commerce, and a Registered Business Consultant on the Business Link National Consultancy Register.
