Work and study from home / off campus
Kent online services
Most online services (such as email, Moodle, SharePoint and more) are available anywhere: you can log in with your Kent IT Account from on and off campus with a web browser.
Free or discounted Microsoft Office and other software is available for your own device.
How to access network-restricted services and files
Access files and some IT systems
The VPN (virtual private network) enables off campus access to:
- your files on the Kent network
- some IT systems such as staff SDS, your printing account and web print.
How to use the VPN to work/study from home
Access data or resources on a staff PC
Staff and researchers: if you have a need that can't be met with standard off campus access, you can apply to use the Remote Desktop Gateway (RDG) service. This enables you to use a campus PC remotely.
When you apply, we'll check for the most appropriate way to meet your needs before approving your request:
- To apply for the Remote Desktop Gateway service contact your departmental IT representative - see this list of IT reps (excel doc) - or IT Service Desk
- For more information find FAQs and advice on supporting RDG on SharePoint
