Red list countries
If you are a new student or a current student who has been studying remotely and travelling from a country on the ‘red list’ the University will reimburse your quarantine costs to a maximum value of £2,285*
*Please refer to ‘how to apply’ and ‘terms and conditions’ for full details and to check if you are eligible for this support package before submitting your refund claim.
We will be offering a Quarantine Buddy Scheme during the quarantine period. Our friendly College and Community Life Team will also be on hand to offer support.
How to apply for reimbursement of quarantine costs
1) You can apply for a reimbursement of quarantine costs here. You must submit an application for reimbursement within six weeks of your arrival date into the UK. Please note you will need to be registered and have claimed your Kent IT account in order to be able to submit your refund application. In order to access the form please login with the Kent email address and login details.
2) You will be required to provide proof of hotel quarantine costs so please keep evidence of the managed quarantine hotel booking and receipts of payment. We will not be able to process your application without this evidence.
3) When you arrive in Kent and become fully registered onto your programme, we will reimburse you after 31 March 2022 provided you have not withdrawn from your programme prior to this date. Please note if you intend to start your studies remotely, you should arrive to Kent no later than 1 April 2022 to be eligible for the reimbursement of quarantine costs.
4) We will email you to confirm that your application has been processed. Your payment will then be paid as a reimbursement into your student account against in the first instance a) University accommodation fees followed by b) tuition fees c) credit held on your student account for future fees d) reimbursement by bank payment into the student’s UK bank account. Please note you will be reimbursed in this order depending on your student account status.

Terms and Conditions
- This support is available for International and EU fee paying new and current students who have been studying remotely and whose permanent residence is in a country on the UK Government’s red list.
*If
your permanent residence is not a country on the UK Government’s red list but
you have travelled through a red list country to enter the UK, we will consider
your application on a case-by-case basis depending on individual circumstances.
- You will need to be fully registered* to receive the refund and arrive to Kent no later than 1 April 2022 to be eligible.
*Students will need to be fully registered onto their programme until 31 March 2022 to be eligible to receive the refund. If a student withdraws before this date they are expected to cover their own quarantine costs.
- If you are not required to stay in a managed quarantine hotel, you will not be eligible for this package.
- If your student account is in deficit, you will not be eligible for the refund until the debt has been cleared
- Payment to the maximum value of £2,285* will be made as a reimbursement into your student account against a) University accommodation fees b) tuition fees c) credit held on your student account for future fees d) reimbursement by bank payment into the student’s UK bank account.
*Students receive up to a maximum of £2,285. Costs will only be reimbursed against actual spend incurred for the hotel quarantine package, students should continue to check the government website for the latest up-to-date information.
- Complete claims (including evidence and bank details if applicable) must be submitted within six weeks of your arrival date into the UK. - Financial support for quarantine is only for students and not any family members who may be travelling with them.
- If you will be sharing quarantine accommodation with other University of Kent students, you should only submit one refund claim form per shared hotel room request. Evidence of both payments must be uploaded onto one single form with both students details.
- Students on incoming exchange programmes from partner universities are exempt from the above and would need to cover the cost of quarantine themselves.
- Should the UK government amend their guidance and requirements, we reserve the right to review our support package.
