Approved list of signatories

From the 28 September 2015 the approved list of signatories permitted to verify and copy right to work in the UK documentation will be implemented.

From this date, documents verified by untrained staff will not be accepted and will be returned to the School/Department.

What is the approved list of signatories

To ensure staff required to verify and copy eligibility understand our obligations under the Immigration Rules, an approved list of signatories will be introduced from September 2015. Staff may be required to verify eligibility documents either at interview stage, or whilst issuing a timesheet or hourly paid lecturer contract.

Approved signatories must have attended the University training which provides information on checking and verifying an individuals right to work in the UK.

Approved signatories will be updated when there are changes to Home Office legislation and support and guidance will be provided by the HR Immigration Adviser.

Nominating additional staff in my School or Department

Each School and Department have nominated members of staff to act as an approved signatory. To nominate additional staff or to replace signatories, please complete the below form and forward to the HR Immigration Advsier.

Training sessions for new or existing signatories will be delivered three times a year, however if there is an immediate need training may be arranged directly with the School or Department.

University training

Training is provided for staff who are nominated to act as an approved signatory to copy and verify right to work in the UK documentation.

Through this training we hope to provide guidance, support and information to enable staff to feel confident in ascertaining a person’s right to work in the UK.

Aims

Provide information on why and how to conduct a right to work in the UK check ensuring staff feel supported and guided through the eligibility checking process and confident when verifying documentation

Objectives

Participants will be taken through the law and the requirements placed on employers by UK Visas and Immigration. 

It is hoped that participants will feel more knowledgeable about our legal obligations and understand the implications of non-compliance.Participants take away best practice, hand-outs and contact information

Who will benefit?

Staff who are required to verify a person’s right to work.  This may be at interview stage, or when completing a timesheet member of staff contract.  These sessions are beneficial to managers with overall responsibility or colleagues who carry out document checks.
