Recognising Excellence in Academia/

Academic Career Map

The Academic Career Map (ACM) is a framework to set out relevant expectations, support development and recognise achievements at each academic career stage (Lecturer/Research Associate/Research Fellow; Senior Lecturer/Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow; Reader and Chair) and includes indicative examples of work activities, standards and behaviours.  It comes into effect in the 2019/20 academic year.

The ACM was launched in May 2019, alongside a new Academic Promotion Policy which is aligned with it.  The launch was accompanied by several staff information sessions have taken place throughout May and June, to provide staff plenty of opportunity to become familiar with the ACM and the new policy before they take effect.

The launch followed a process of staff engagement, consultation and feedback which began in November 2018 and led to all relevant committees (JSNCC, Senate and SPC) approving the content of the ACM and the new policy.
