KFSP calculator 2021/22

Financial support which may be available for full-time students from England entering in 2021 and paying the maximum tuition fee*:

For most students, household income is the gross taxable household income of you and your parent(s)/step-parent(s)/partner, less payments into a pension fund and excluding your earnings during university term time and holidays.

Are you in one of these groups?

  • Eligible care leavers - see eligibility criteria
  • Students who live in Social Housing
  • Students who live in a Foyer or who are 'homeless'

*Students who normally live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland will receive financial support from the Scottish Government, the Welsh Assembly Government or the Northern Ireland Executive, as appropriate.

  • The eligibility criteria for the funding scheme also include a measure of whether a candidate resides in an area deemed to have participation rates in higher education which are below expected levels. This criterion, referred to as Participation of Local Areas, or POLAR, is used by the Office for Students to determine university widening access targets. The University of Kent uses POLAR4 quintiles in combination with household income to target its financial support. Awards are made to students who fall into POLAR4 quintiles 1 and 2 and who are under 21 on 30 September 2021, who also meet other eligibility criteria, and students who fall into any POLAR4 quintile and who are over 21 on 30 September 2021, who also meet other eligibility criteria. More information about (POLAR4) including postcode lookup data can be found on the Office for Students website. The calculations made by this calculator use POLAR4 MSOA data that was correct in September 2020, mapped to ONS postcode data available in March 2020. Please be aware that lookup files are very large and can be difficult to download.
  • These calculations are only an estimate. For a more detailed calculation (excluding University of Kent's Financial Support Package) visit the Government website GOV.UK for further information. Student Finance England is the definitive source for student funding calculations and you should contact them to find out the exact amount you are eligible for.
  • All UK students can apply to defer payment of tuition fees via a tuition fee loan.
  • The Kent Financial Support Package is subject to approval by the Office for Students.
