The Council Secretariat

The Council Secretariat supports the work of:

  • the University's Court
  • the University's Council
  • the sub committees of Council

Key responsibilities of the Secretariat include:

  • ensuring that the Charter, Statutes and Ordinances are adhered to and updated appropriately and liaising with the Privy Council on any necessary changes;
  • providing the Council with authoritative guidance about its responsibilities under the Royal Charter, Statutes, Articles, Ordinances and regulations to which it is subject, including legislation and the requirements of the Funding Council
  • ensuring that new or revised responsibilities for the Council (e.g. arising from new legislation) are drawn to the Council’s attention;
  • to be pro-active in all issues around good governance and to bring developments in good practice to the attention of the Council;
  • ensuring that Council receives overviews of relevant current policy issues in Higher Education regulation;
  • managing staff and student grievances to Council
