In Conversation with Alastair Stewart OBE

Alastair Stewart was the next guest in the hotseat when he visited the University of Kent on 20 February 2016. With two of the titans of British broadcast journalism sitting opposite each other, it proved to be a fascinating and engaging evening.

After welcoming Alastair Stewart to the University, Gavin Esler started the talk with questions about Alastair Stewart's early career in journalism, before discussing the changes in journalism in terms of technology and competition between different networks. A key theme of the evening was the importance of impartiality to journalism, with Alastair Stewart saying, "Go to us just to get the basic facts and then make up your own mind. It's absolutely crucial in a pluralist democracy."

After the talk, there was a High Table Dinner with Alastair Stewart and the Chancellor in Darwin Conference Suite. Money raised from the sale of tickets for this part of the event will go towards the Kent Opportunity Fund.

A full video of the event will be available in due course. Please check back soon.
