Kent to Launch New Programme to Support Women in the Workplace
A new programme aiming to bridge the gap between the university and business communities and create opportunities for women is being launched this September by Kent Innovation & Enterprise at the University of Kent.
The programme came about in response to feedback following the Women in Enterprise Conference, hosted by Kent Innovation and Enterprise in 2015. At the conference a number of female entrepreneurs from across Kent and the UK presented the secrets of their success to students, university staff and business representatives. Following the event The Director of Innovation and Enterprise at the University was asked to establish a formal support programme that would bring together students, staff and women in business and enthuse them to take positive actions to develop themselves and others.
And so the Inspire, Challenge, Excel Programme (ICEP) was developed. The programme will create opportunities for women to try something new, influence others to go beyond their comfort zone and work together to effect change and will work in partnership with established professional bodies and organisations to provide as wide a support programme as possible.
ICEP will run alongside a number of initiatives already in place at the University, as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting equality, diversity and inclusivity: Athena Swan, which recognises advancement of gender equality within the HE sector, and Aurora, the Leadership Foundation’s women-only leadership development programme, addressing the under representation of women in leadership positions in the sector.
The new Programme will be formally launched on 22nd September by the University’s incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor Karen Cox, and will feature a high profile internationally renowned scientist, academic and social entrepreneur.
The launch event is open to all who are interested in the programme. Register here.
