The starting point for this project is a recent book written by Jared Cohen entitled Children of Jihad, a travelogue based on the author’s journeys to Iraq, Iran, Lebanon and Syria.

Our project aims to set up a response to Cohen’s work, inviting students from Iraq, Iran, Lebanon and Syria over to the UK for a 3-4 week visit in late September/ early October 2010 in which they would be based in towns or cities with universities in order to meet with youth in the UK and record their impressions of their encounters.

We hope this will provide an opportunity for youth of the Middle East to voice their own views of their points of contact with and points of divergence from their Western counterparts. One of main ways in which they will be able to do this is via the Children of Jihad blog. We will also be holding events where the youth representatives will be able to present their findings, videos of which will also be posted on the site.

Further information, including profiles of our representatives, will follow in September.
