About

Blaine Epsley is a Lecturer in Digital Arts and Technology. Graduating with an MSc in Digital Visual Effects, he comes from an industry background as a VFX Artist and Digital Compositor across a broad range of industries in the creative sector, including: Film, TV, Advertising and Corporate. More recently, Blaine has expanded into related technical arts fields including real time rendering environments used in the games industry, virtual production and more.

Research interests

Blaine's primary area of interest in research is in the broad field of embedded scholarship-based research and knowledge transfer within the creative industries. Most recently, his research has focussed on the pedagogical value of specific industry practices, and how they can be effectively integrated with higher education, to bridge knowledge gaps and enhance employability of graduates.

Teaching

Blaine has experience in teaching across all stages of offered courses in Higher education, focussed primarily in the fields of Visual Effects, Animation, and Game Art. Specifically leading on topics such as 3D Tracking, Matchmove, Lighting, Rendering, Compositing, Effects Simulation and Real Time Environment Design. Beyond this, he also supervises taught student projects as well as related PhD research projects.
