Endurance Research Conference
The Endurance Research Conference invites coaches, sports scientists, medical practitioners, students and researchers to share knowledge from the world of endurance research. Its aim is to further the use of research in endurance sport and exercise, and disseminate relevant information to practitioners. The conference programme has been designed to stimulate and inspire future collaboration and research-informed practice for the benefit of a new generation of endurance athletes.
Thanks to the funding provided by the Beacon Project, we have been able to organize a world-class event with a broad appeal. In addition to speakers from the Endurance Research Group, this conference includes world-leading authorities in the field of endurance research, as well as oral and poster contributions from scientists interested in fatigue, endurance exercise, endurance training, and endurance performance. Like WCCS 2014, the conference will also include an Open Lecture tailored to the general public, as well as sessions specifically designed for athletes and coaches. Finally, it will provide an opportunity for the winners of our school competition and exchange bursaries to showcase their research to a wider audience.
Endurance Research Group
Located in Kent (South East England), the School has a particular research focus on endurance exercise performance. As part of the School, the Endurance Research Group features academics whose aim is to understand and improve endurance performance by studying training process and adaptation, exercise and muscle physiology, and perceptual and cognitive processes. The scientific quality and practical applicability of the School's research is testified by vast output in high-impact, refereed international journals devoted to both theoretical and applied aspects of endurance exercise performance.
In July 2012, we organized the first 'Endurance Research Symposium' to officially launch our Endurance Research Group. This one-day event consisted of presentations by members of the Endurance Research Group and two guest speakers: Professor Frank Marino from Australia, and Professor Guillaume Millet from France. Because of its success, we decided to follow it up with a bi-annual conference open to all scientists interested in fatigue, endurance exercise, endurance training, and endurance performance. This regular and specialised conference would be a unique event within the sport and exercise sciences.. For 2014, however, the planned 'Endurance Research Conference' was replaced by the World Congress of Cycling Science 2014 (WCCS 2014) held in Leeds on the 2/3 July. This prestigious event was organised by members of the Endurance Research Group and it is endorsed by the Union Cycliste International (UCI).
School of Sport & Exercise Sciences
The conference is organised by the University of Kent’s School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, with other partners.
We are a research-active School of Sport and Exercise Science within a leading UK University (ranked in the top 20 of UK Universities). Located in Kent (South East England), we became the School of Sport and Exercise Science in 2012, having previously been known as the Centre for Sport Studies. At the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences we have a particular research focus on endurance exercise performance.
