Placements/Year in Industry (I-KEW)

What are the benefits?

A Year in Industry (sometimes called a Professional Placement Year or a Sandwich Year), is your opportunity to put what you have learned into practice.

It enables you to increase your practical understanding of your subject, gain further knowledge and develop skills vital for your future. It is also a great way to try out a potential future career. A Year in Industry offers huge benefits to you, no matter what subject you are studying.

Help and support

Your School can help you find the right types of companies, and the Careers and Employability Service will support you through the application process.

If you want to talk through whether a placement year is right for you, pop in to a 'Drop In' at the Careers and Employability Service for impartial advice, or email us.

Find opportunities

See below for a list of Schools that offer Year in Industry or Year Abroad programmes and contact them for the next steps.

If your school is not listed, the option is not currently available with your programme, but please keep an eye out for bulletins from your school and updates to this page. You can gain experience of work through other means.

I have learnt to multitask, to organise my time more efficiently and to meet deadlines. This has made me a more rounded and experienced person.
