KentPlayer - information for staff

KentPlayer is the University's lecture recording service. It enables staff to easily produce recordings of lectures and make these recordings available via Moodle. KentPlayer uses software called Panopto. It is available on all lecture and seminar PCs, and can also be installed on other PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones, enabling staff to make recordings at their desk or in the field.

University Policy for the Recording of Lectures

Lecture recording is seen as a normal part of the Kent student learning experience and supports student learning in many ways. It is not seen as a replacement for attending lectures, but as an important resource to support student learning. Recordings of all lectures cannot be guaranteed, but all reasonable efforts are made to provide them.

Our Policy for the Recording of Lectures sets out the University’s policy including the use of School-level statements, which should be available to students. Note that lectures should usually be recorded unless there is a particular reason not to, and that when lectures are not recorded students should be informed of the reasons.

Making best use of our KentPlayer support

If you are new to KentPlayer but have used lecture recording before and/or are a confident IT user, get started using our online guidance. Alternatively, you can book to attend a training session. We also have interviews with staff and students explaining how they use lecture capture. Finally there is an extensive Frequently Asked Questions and contacts page.
