Delve into the ancient world and uncover the cultures, myths, histories and legacies of the civilisations that shaped it. At Kent you will develop new skills, and gain valuable experience ready for a wide range of careers, from archaeology to the heritage industry – or further afield - a degree in ancient history from Kent is the first step to wherever you want to go.

Join world-leading experts, including practising archaeologists and historians. You’ll study history from the shores of Roman Britain to Byzantium, and from Egyptian temples and Near Eastern empires to the Greek city states.

From day one you will be uncovering new perspectives on topics such as migration, gender, identity, and religion in the ancient world and have the opportunity to explore classical culture, from literature to drama or philosophy. Course structure

You begin with introductory modules on the civilisations of Greece and Rome as well as an introduction to archaeology. Build your course by choosing from modules on topics such as empires and classical mythology, and have the opportunity to study ancient Greek and Latin; the languages of the ancient texts you will encounter during your course.

How you'll study

All modules have a weekly small-group seminar, and most also have weekly lectures. We encourage you to take part in excavations and field surveys with staff and associated institutions, and student bursaries are available to support this.

Our Archaeology Lab is home to state-of-the-art equipment for geophysics, laser scanning and dating. You'll analyse ancient materials and develop technical expertise, so you can explore history while boosting your prospects for the future.

Tuition fees for 2024 entry

The 2024/25 annual tuition fees for this course are:

For students continuing on this programme, fees will increase year on year by no more than RPI + 3% in each academic year of study except where regulated.*
