Course overview

Physics reaches from the quark out to the largest of galaxies, and encompasses all the matter and timescales within these extremes.

By combining physics with astrophysics, you'll use the principles of physics to explore the cosmos – from our own solar system to galaxies and cosmology – and develop your understanding of the material world. You'll study the physical nature of bodies and processes in space, and the instruments and techniques used in modern astronomical research.

You'll have the opportunity to spend your third year studying abroad at one of our partner institutions. This provides a wealth of personal and professional benefits. You'll experience a different culture, establish international contacts, grow in self-confidence and enhance your employability.

Our focus is on helping you follow your passion as well as giving you the best possible start to your future. You'll gain a wide range of skills that will open up career pathways in the growing space industry, finance, manufacturing and technology.

If you don’t have a science background or don’t meet our entry requirements, you can take our foundation year.

Inspired by the wonders of the universe?

If you'd like to get involved in real space missions from ESA and NASA and work on Hubble Telescope data, you'll be interested in our Astronomy, Space Science and Astrophysics course.

Accreditation

This course is fully accredited by the Institute of Physics.

Why study Physics with Astrophysics at Kent?

Take a global view.

Spend a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities. We currently have links with institutions in the US, Canada, Hong Kong and Switzerland.

Flexible curriculum.

You'll be able to move between our courses in the earlier years, ensuring you are studying the best course for you.

Lots to discover.

Exploring all areas of physics was important to Lucy Abbott, which is why she chose to study at Kent – that and Kent's friendly atmosphere.
