Computer Science is an exciting and evolving subject that affects every area of our lives. A deep understanding of computing puts you in a great position to influence the future as well as paving the way to excellent employment opportunities and well-paid careers.  You'll be offered plenty of support, including peer mentoring, web forums and study skills services to give you the best start to your career.

Accreditation

This degree has been accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT on behalf of the Engineering Council. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK- PEC). The Year in Industry course also has BCS RITTech accreditation.

Course structure

You'll learn to code in several languages, starting with the Java programming language, which is widely used in industry.

How you'll study

You'll have access to academics who are pushing boundaries with their research. Kent is an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research as well as being experts in programming languages and artificial intelligence.

The School has superb makerspaces, which house equipment including 3D printers, a laser cutter and metal fabrication machinery.

Your future

An accredited degree gives you the knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng). Some employers prefer graduates from accredited degrees, and your degree is also more likely to be recognised in other countries if you're looking to work abroad.
