Doctor of the University
Paul Dyer studied Politics and Government at the University of Kent in 1974. Since then, he has attained a Master’s with distinction in War, Media and Modernity and is an Honorary History Fellow of the University. Paul Dyer has 37 years’ experience in the insurance industry and was one of the co-founders of Towergate in 1997.
After completing his undergraduate degree at Kent, Paul had a conventional insurance training through Royal Insurance and TSB Group before joining progressive insurer ITT London & Edinburgh in 1982. In 1994, he was part of the MBO team that bought Economic Insurance and subsequently sold it in 1996 to Hiscox Syndicates.
He is Chairman of Manchester-based brokerage Northern Keep, Chairman of internet underwriter now4cover and Non-Executive Director of Minority Venture Partners.
He has developed the ‘Paul Dyer Challenge’ which annually provides business students at the University of Kent with a ‘finishing’ course on leadership designed to make the transition between the academic and business world easier and more effective. He is also a member of the Management Advisory Board at the University of Kent Business School.
With a strong interest in the military, he sponsors the development of the RMA Sandhurst archive, and is a trustee of the military charity, Veterans Aid, which looks after veterans in crisis. He is also a trustee of Hospice UK. He is a founding trustee of the Towergate Foundation.
