John Covell is currently Managing Director of Templer Charters Consulting, a firm consulting on risk management, corporate governance and internal audit effectiveness. He studied Economics and Economic History at the University of Kent, graduating in 1970.
In 2005, he founded the University of Kent in America Inc which was established to enable more events and networking opportunities for Kent's many alumni in the US and to fundraise for exciting student-focused initiatives at Kent.
Fully embracing student life while at Kent, he was Chairman of the Economics Society, News Editor for Incant and he hosted a weekly talk show on Radio Rutherford. John Covell also played cricket and field hockey and sang in the University Choir. He was the first Vice-Chair of the Keynes College Junior Common Room and in 2006 was made an Honorary Senior Member of Keynes College.
John Covell started his career with Price Waterhouse in London and Paris where he worked with major international companies on external audits and consulting projects. He moved to the US in 1979 and held various senior finance and audit roles. From 1993 to 2006 he was the Director of the Corporate Audit at Western Atlas Inc. and subsequently Intermec Inc. Prior to his present position as Managing Director of Templer Charters Consulting, John Covell was Vice President of Corporate Audit at General Growth Properties, Inc. Chicago, Il, US from 2006 to 2013. He is a past President of the Chicago Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors and served for 18 years on its international conference committee.
