After graduating from Queen Mary College, London University, Peter Hawkes worked for GEC Research where he went on to lead a team pioneering the application of integrated circuits in telecommunications. On joining the National Research Development Corporation (later to become BTG), he initiated and led several projects on smart cards, biometric identification and secure network technology. The early part of this work was done in collaboration with Donald Davies of the National Physical Laboratory.
In 1990, he helped found the Association for Biometrics, serving as Chair for seven years. For the past ten years, he has participated in the development of RFID (radio-frequency identification) tags and contactless cards, specialising in the management of the associated patents.He currently serves on the BSI/ISO Committees developing standards for biometrics, ID tags and contactless cards. He has published widely in these and related topics.back to top
