Professor Sir Graeme Catto

One of the medical world's most distinguished figures, Professor Sir Graeme Catto is President of the General Medical Council (GMC) and Professor of Medicine, University of Aberdeen. He has been involved with academic medicine in a distinguished career spanning nearly 40 years. After graduating in medicine, he obtained a Harkness Fellowship to study at Harvard University and is an honorary physician with an interest in renal medicine. He has published widely on different aspects of nephrology and immunology.
He was Vice-Principal at King's College London, Dean of the Guy's, King's College and St Thomas' Hospitals' School of Medicine and Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of London until 2005. Formerly Chief Scientist at the Scottish Executive Health Department, he is currently a member of the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence, Governor of the Science Technology Park in Qatar and chairs the Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine. He was appointed President of the GMC in 2001.back to top
