Katie Van Sanden

Industrial Placement Coordinator

As part of the School’s dedicated Placement team I assist Master's and second year computing students in finding and securing challenging and rewarding work placements for their Year in Industry.

I offer one-to-one career advice and guidance, CV and application help, interview preparation, creative job-hunting skills and any nurturing/motivating/nagging/inspiring that’s required to help students on their placement-hunting journey!

I also run group skills workshops to help build students’ confidence.

A large part of my role is to visit students on placement (in person and remotely) to ensure they make the most of the experience, to address any issues, and to make sure they’re meeting the required learning outcomes of the Year in Industry module. The role also involves engaging regularly with their managers to they are fully supported, and to encourage repeat business.

I also spend a lot of time building and maintaining relationships with businesses in Kent, nationwide and overseas to ensure a constant and reliable supply of challenging and meaningful placements for Kent computing students.
