This project explores the motivations for the acquisition of English by the Bangladeshi community in London. This Nuffield Foundation funded project (under the Nuffield Social Science Grants Scheme) considers some key factors that are instrumental and integral to learning including fluency in English, motivations to acquire English language skills, barriers to accessing services and an assessment of the need for ESOL using a needs-based approach.
