Work and Opportunities Fund
If you have secured some unpaid work experience you could be entitled to funding. In addition Go Abroad advertise some funding for international work experience. You could also be entitled to funding if you have found a training or networking opportunity which will enhance your graduate prospects.

What can I use the funding for?
This funding will contribute towards the cost of transport, accommodation, training, childcare or uniform. Terms and conditions apply.
Am I eligible?
In addition to the Terms and conditions, you must:
- Be a student registered with the University of Kent, studying in the UK.
- Be undertaking work which is considered graduate-level or attending a training / networking opportunity that will support your employability upon graduation.
- Claim the funding against costs incurred in the first 3 weeks (or 120 hours) of your work experience.
When is the deadline for applying?
There is no final deadline. Eligible applications will be awarded funding on a first-come-first-served basis. We are allocated a specific budget on an annual basis, and when it's gone, it's gone.
Can you find me work experience?
The Careers and Employability Service are here to support you, through appointments and online resources, however it is the responsibility of each student to find their own placement. Here are some useful links to help you in your search:
Q: I have recently completed my work experience. Can I still apply?
A: Yes, as long as you have evidence of your expenses, such as travel tickets or receipts.
Q: Can I claim funding for volunteering?
A: You may be able to claim for volunteering expenses, however, the voluntary placement must be graduate level work. You may only claim expenses for the first 3 weeks (or 120 hours) of the duration of your voluntary placement. You can also record your volunteering hours through the Kent Volunteering Scheme (KVS).
Q: What do you consider to be 'graduate level' work experience?
A: Graduate level work experience counts as tasks and responsibilities that mimic graduate level work. This, for example, does not include making tea and photocopying.
Q: Does work shadowing count as 'graduate level' work experience?
A: If you are able to fully articulate what benefit you will gain from the work-shadowing experience, then your application will be considered.
Q: What do you consider to be appropriate uniform?
A: Clothing/footwear considerate of the working environment in which you are placed, eg. shirt/blouse, smart skirt/trousers. No single item must cost more than £75.00. Must be supported by original receipt(s).
Q: What type of childcare would be eligible?
A: Registered carer or pre-arranged nursery placement only. Must be supported by official receipt of payment/invoice.
