DESCRIPTION:This talk is based on a joint work with Ilke Canakci. We will begin by introducing surface cluster algebras, in elementary terms, using triangulations of surfaces (following the work of Fomin--Thurston). Next we discuss how to compute elements in surface cluster algebras by counting perfect matchings in graphs (following the work of Musiker--Schiffler--Williams). The basic concern of our account is to transfer the counting of perfect matchings to a quantised setup for certain types of surface cluster algebras. At the end I shall comment on a connection to generating functions of BPS states in mathematical physics.\n\n
