Writing for a Living

Do you want to write for a living? What does a writer's day look like? What are the options and how can you get started? Our expert panel of professional writers look at the trials and tribulations of making a living from the written word and share their insights into breaking into this competitive, frustrating and rewarding profession.Chair: Dr Jeremy Scott, Senior Lecturer in English Language and LinguisticsJeremy teaches and researches on the border between literature and language studies, and is also a published author.Speakers include:Emma Glass (Novelist), Tim Harding (Communications Coordinator for Keltbray), Yosola Olorunshola (Freelance Writer)Emily Cook (Kent graduate and freelance journalist/broadcaster). Emily graduated with a BA (Hons) in English Language and Linguistics and MA in Linguistics, and is now a journalist and features editor for Doctor Who MagazineHeidi Colthup (Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics and Convenor of "Writing in the Media"). Heidi works in Stylistics – media, narrative, and creative writing.  She is a published poet and has also worked as a columnist for a national magazine.
