LGBT History Month Book Club
LGBT+ History Month

This is a partnership with the Library and Kent Union for students who want to feed their literary curiosity and discover new books and resources outside of their academic studies. The book club will have a chosen text to read for a month and will be related to social and political topics in the 21st century. February will be exploring African American Author James Baldwin and his literature with a particular focus on his 1956 novel 'Giovanni's Room' which focuses on the protagonist's relationships and sexuality in 1950's Paris, France. During each meeting we will facilitate discussions of the relevant themes found throughout the book; themes that are pertinent to the LGBTQ+ community which we feel are important to explore. The topics range from masculinity and sexual identity to the idea of LGBTQ+ spaces and their increased popularity in our day to day lives.

There will be copies of the book available and links for an audio version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZMloJ-AWJE&t=1211s) as well as a PDF version (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-MWjwqVu7VyX3NRQXhtMHFwYmc/view). We encourage you to read some of the book before to coming to the club, but this is not necessary as we will all explore the book together as a group
