Title: Solving problems in the financial services industry using Monte Carlo

The financial industry is often confronted with the complex and challenging problem of predicting the uncertain future economy. Economic scenarios are thus modelled and hence future returns on asset classes, funds and portfolios are estimated. These then can be used to solve various banking and actuarial problems – from pricing derivatives to estimating reserves for guarantees in the long-term life insurance products or pension funds. Over the years this modelling has moved from using approximations to more accurate calculation approaches like Monte Carlo. This talk presents a motivation for the Monte Carlo approach and demonstrates solving industry problems using scenario generators.
