Professor Mark Hallett and Dr Sarah Victoria Turner

The Histories: Art, Drama and Film Research Cluster within the School of Arts invites you to a research seminar on Wednesday 14th November 2018, 5pm in Keynes Seminar Room 6, University of Kent

Curating The Great Spectacle

Charting 250 years of the history of the Royal Academy's annual exhibition, The Great Spectacle revisited important moments in the history of the Academy and its annual show: from its inception as a showcase for grand society portraits and epic history scenes, via its role in the fight for women's suffrage and the impact of two World Wars, to its ongoing status as a platform for both established and unknown contemporary artists. Curators Mark Hallett and Sarah Turner of the Paul Mellon Centre will discuss the challenges of devising a display that charted the highlights of a national institution.
