CANCELLED: What's the Point of Philosophy?
Royal Institute of Philosophy Public Lecture
Professor Helen Beebe (University of Manchester)

Unfortunately this event has been cancelled due to the ongoing industrial action.

Abstract: Philosophers generally assume that the aim of philosophy is knowledge. But is that a realistic aim? There is a growing body of opinion that most of the philosophical knowledge we take to be achievable really isn't achievable at all, neither in practice nor in principle. I discuss and endorse some reasons for thinking this, and sketch an alternative account of what it is that philosophy should be aiming at.
