Guest Speaker: Professor Chris Budd OBE

Professor Chris Budd OBE will be giving a lecture on 'What have Mathematicians Done for us?' invesigating the unusual and hidden applications of mathematics including its use in online platforms like Facebook and Google. COME ALONG: Wednesday 15 November, 1pm - 2pm Sibson Lecture Theatre 2

Professor Chris Budd is currently a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Univeristy of Bath and Professor of Mathematics at the Royal Institution. He has appeared on TV shows such as BBC's The One Show and popular science panel comedy game show, It's Only a Theory.

He won the Leslie Fox Prize for Numerical Analysis in 1991. In 1999 he was one of ten scientists awarded the title of "Scientist for the new century" by the Royal Institution. In 2001 he was one of 20 lectures in the UK to be awarded an ILT Teaching Fellowship, and he was nominated the LMS popular lecturer in applied mathematics. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2015 for services to science and maths education. The interactive session is part of the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science's 'Maths For All' Speaker Series and is open to everyone.
