We are pleased to be running our Foundations of Management programme 3 times this academic year. The application process for the programme is by nomination via line managers and this current cohort is already at capacity but if you are interested in participating on our next available cohort, please speak with your line manager to discuss your learning objectives and identify if this would be of benefit to you, after which your line manager can ensure your name is put forward to the Head of School/Department for inclusion in the next call for participants.
Designed for members of staff new to, or with limited experience of staff management/supervision who require an understanding of practical application of management processes – the 'how-to' and who have involvement in a wide range of management duties, such as recruitment of staff, absence and/or performance management, undertaking RPD's, leading and motivating a team.
Please note; we also run a portfolio of modular workshops on specific management skills which are suited to those who only undertake certain aspects of supervision/management (do not hold a full management role) and opportunities for these can be found and booked via our calendar.
This programme provides a practical approach in order to build essential skills in people management practice. We utilise a number of learning methods, for example, paired and group discussion and scenario based activity and delegates are expected to fully interact with facilitators and other delegates in all workshops in order to get the best from the programme. The programme focusses on translating the requirements of employment legislation, organisational policy & procedures and personal management style into effective management practice (we will look at specific situations managers/supervisors need to deal with in the workplace often). This programme has been developed for managers and supervisors with limited or no experience in managing people, but have current responsibilities for people management in their role.
The programme provides an opportunity to interact with peers, share common experiences and knowledge and increase internal networks, whilst developing an understanding of practical approaches to people management within the context of the HR policies and procedures in Kent.
At the end of the programme each participant is asked to undertake a brief assignment, focussing on how they intend to implement the learning from the workshops. They will be required to share this with their line manager and fellow cohort participants. There is pre-work for most workshops and participants are encouraged to engage with additional activities as the programme progresses.
