Management Induction

Designed for: Staff undertaking managerial roles within the University who are either; new employees at the University or who are taking on their first management role at Kent.

Please note; staff completely new to management may also wish to consider requesting allocation on the new Foundations of Management Programme via their line manager.


The workshop aims to provide an introduction to undertaking a management role at Kent. It identifies and briefly reviews key Statute 7 Ordinances for HR people practises, discusses appropriate leadership behaviours and expectations at Kent, whilst allowing for reflection on personal management styles and outlines further support and development opportunities available to managers.

Learning objectives: by the end of the course attendees will:

Be able to identify key Ordinances and people practises which they will need to engage with regularly as a manager

Know how and where to access further support, advice and guidance relating to staff management issues

Have an understanding of the University of Kent's leadership and management culture and what that means for them as a manager

Be able to identify further development or training opportunities which would assist them in their role as manager
