Being Human: A Festival of the Humanities
Being Human Festival
The Hopes and Fears of the Humanities

The University of Kent is excited to host the 'Hopes & Fears of the Humanities' element of 2016's Being Human Festival, a series of events led by the University of London's School of Advanced Study in partnership with the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the British Academy. But what does it mean to study and work in the faculty of Humanities?

Are the humanities under attack? If so, what is out to get you if you choose to study Architecture, Archaeology, Art HIstory, Classics, English, Fine Art, History, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy or Religious Studies?

The University of Kent's participation in the festival will take place during the evening of Tuesday 22 November and will comprise of a short film followed by a panel discussion.

The film, 'What is Humanities Research at the University of Kent?', will give our guests the opportunity to see for themselves how this faculty is researched and measured at Kent, along with the external pressures that the humanities now face with Brexit, the TEF (Teaching Excellent Framework) and the REF (Research Excellence Framework).

Ensuing the film, the panel will discuss insights into the motivations, the hopes and the fears of researchers and what preoccupies them in the faculty of humanities. This panel will be made up of a variety of staff members, academics and students to offer a broad range of opinions and feelings toward this potentially threatened forte.

As part of the festival, there will also be several blogs from various members of the University to detail their involvement within the Being Human Festival. More details of these blogs will be available soon.
