Maria Fanou

European University in Florence


Ms. Maria Fanou is a PhD Researcher at the European University in Florence and a Visiting Lecturer at BSIS. At BSIS, she convenes and teaches the course "International Law of Foreign Investment" during the fall semester. She completed a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B.) and a Postgraduate Diploma (Master) in Civil Law at the University of Athens, an LL.M. at Harvard Law School and an LL.M. in EU law at the University of Cambridge. Maria has held visiting research positions at various institutions including the MPI Luxembourg for Procedural Law where she was a Visiting Scholar (Scholarship 2018), the BU Pardee School Center for the Study of Europe and the Harvard Law School (Fulbright Schuman, Visiting Researcher 2017). She is a qualified lawyer (Athens Bar Association) and has gained work experience in both Athens and Paris prior to her joining the EUI Ph.D. Program. Her research interests include International Investment Law and Arbitration, International Commercial Arbitration, EU Law and Private Law.
